Effective Date: September 9, 2026
Absoread ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy details how your personal data and reading information are collected, used, stored, and safeguarded when you use the Absoread mobile application for Android.
⚡ Quick Summary
- Your reading material belongs to you: Text you paste, documents you import (.pdf, .txt), and built-in starter books are processed locally on your device.
- No Advertisements or Data Selling: We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal data, nor do we track you across third-party apps for advertising purposes.
- Optional Cloud Sync: You can use Absoread completely offline in Guest Mode. Cloud backup and cross-device synchronization are only activated when you explicitly sign in with Google.
- Full Data Control: You can export, delete individual sessions, or permanently wipe your account and all associated cloud/local data at any time directly in the app or via our web portal.
1. Information We Collect
A. Account Information (Authenticated Users Only)
When you sign in using Google Sign-In via Firebase Authentication, we receive your:
- Google Display Name
- Email Address
- Unique Firebase User Identifier (UID)
Guest Mode: If you choose to use Absoread in Guest Mode, no account is created, and no personal identifying information is collected or transmitted.
B. User Documents and Reading Content
- Local Processing: Files you import (.pdf, .txt) and text you paste are parsed and rendered directly on your device using local sandboxed storage and offline processing engines.
- Built-in Starter Books: Pre-bundled classic titles (public domain works) are stored locally in the app bundle and require zero network transmission.
- Cloud Backup (Optional): When you enable cloud backups, your document content, reading progress (current word offset, last-read page, WPM), and reading metadata are securely transmitted and stored in your private Google Cloud Firestore account for cross-device retrieval.
C. Reading Progression, Gamification & Settings
To deliver a personalized reading experience and pacing calibration, the app tracks:
- Reading Metrics: Words read, reading speed (Words Per Minute), session duration, and focus streak lengths.
- Progression System: Experience Points (XP), operator rank levels, daily reading targets, daily focus streaks, stasis buffers (streak freezes), and unlocked milestone badges.
- Timestamps: Local session timestamps used strictly to calculate streak continuity and prevent day-rollover synchronization errors across devices.
- User Preferences: Theme modes (Dark, Light, AMOLED, Solarized), ORP accent colors, typography choices, and reading pacing settings.
D. Automated Diagnostics and Performance Data
We use Google Firebase Crashlytics and Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymized technical telemetry:
- Application crash stack traces and freeze logs.
- Device hardware model, operating system version, and performance diagnostics.
- Anonymized usage events to help us identify software regressions and optimize rendering performance.
2. How Your Information Is Used
We use collected information strictly for the following operational purposes:
- Core Functionality: To display Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) and Lazy Scroll readers at your customized speed and visual settings.
- Cross-Device Synchronization: To sync your reading library, bookmarks, settings, and XP progression across your authenticated devices.
- Streak & Habit Protection: To accurately compute consecutive daily reading streaks and apply stasis buffer freezes when days are missed.
- Local Scheduled Reminders: To schedule optional, client-side daily reading reminders and streak warnings via Android WorkManager (requires notification permissions on Android 13+). We do not use remote push servers to track user activity.
- Stability & Bug Resolution: To detect, isolate, and fix application crashes and performance bottlenecks.
3. Third-Party Services and Data Security
We partner only with industry-standard infrastructure providers that maintain strict data protection standards:
Security Measures
- In Transit: All communications between the app and cloud endpoints are encrypted using modern Transport Layer Security (HTTPS / TLS 1.3).
- At Rest: Data stored in Google Cloud Firestore is encrypted using standard AES-256 encryption.
- Sandbox Isolation: Local document cache files are stored within protected app-internal storage directories inaccessible to other applications.
4. Data Retention and Account Deletion
You have complete control over your data and can purge it at any time:
A. In-App Deletion
- Individual Sessions / Backups: Swipe or tap the menu on any reading card to delete individual reading files or remove cloud backups immediately.
- Permanent Account & Cloud Data Deletion: Navigate to Settings → Account → Delete Account & Cloud Data. This permanently and irreversibly deletes:
- Your Firebase Authentication account.
- All cloud reading sessions and full-text backups in Firestore.
- All cloud gamification stats, XP, streak records, and preference backups.
- All local device cache, files, and SharedPreferences.
- Guest Data Reset: Guests can tap Clear All Guest Data in Settings to instantly wipe all local data and reset the app.
B. Web-Based Deletion Request (Google Play Compliance)
If you have uninstalled the app or cannot access your device, you can request full account and data deletion by visiting our dedicated deletion portal:
Absoread Account & Data Deletion Portal
Submit an immediate deletion request or copy our support details.

5. Children’s Privacy
Absoread does not knowingly collect or solicit personal identifiable information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). If we discover that personal data from a child under 13 has been collected without verifiable parental consent, we will promptly delete that information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at absoread1@gmail.com.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may periodically update this Privacy Policy to reflect app enhancements, new features, or regulatory updates. Any changes will be posted within the application and reflected by an updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of Absoread after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
